The Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Associations (İMMİB) organized the panel “Decarbonization of Energy-Intensive Metal Sectors and Global Trade” as part of the WTO Public Forum 2024 in Geneva. Bringing together stakeholders from energy-intensive metal industries, the session addressed the financial and technological challenges of decarbonization, as well as access to clean energy, scrap, financing and infrastructure. The panel also examined the impact of new green regulations on metal industries and international trade, while discussing how increasing protectionism and geopolitical tensions may affect the pace of decarbonization. The discussion highlighted the importance of an inclusive green transition that supports both industrial competitiveness and the benefits of international trade.
